Burley Bears clothing drive
Jackson P. Burley Middle School is proud to announce that we our collecting new and very gently used clothes and shoes for our newly adopted school in Swannanoa, NC, Owen Middle School.
Our students are collecting clothes and shoes for any season that will fit a middle school aged child. Some of these families have lost everything so anything is appreciated. Our goal is to fill a box truck full of donations that will be delivered by our very own Keith Ellen. Please bring your clothing donation to our school anytime between 8 am- 4 pm.
If you would like to contribute but have no clothes, please consider donating to our Donor's Choose Fundraiser. The money will be used to purchase more clothes and to rent a truck to deliver the goods.
A message from the creator of the Burley Clothing Drive, Keith Ellen:
"As teachers we see our job as much more than teaching students about the dates of the first World War, making inferences, the name of the 7th planet, and slope/line/intercept, we try to teach things like conflict resolution, kindness, and empathy. Like many, I have watched the horrendous destruction caused by the recent hurricane and my heart went out to people who literally lost everything, not to mention the family members who passed away. The western part of North Carolina is not all that different than Charlottesville. Sure, the mountains are a little bigger, but still very similar. That storm could have very easily made its way a bit further northeast and we may have found ourselves in the same situation. I see an opportunity for our students, our staff, and school community to help and make a human connection with those in need."
