Hello Rising 9th Grade Students and Parents:
This website has been designed to help support current Burley Middle School 8th grade students during the high school registration process for the 2025/2026 school year. Ms. Brice will begin meeting with students and their families in January 2025 to assist with the course selection process and answer questions about high school.

9th Grade Course Registration Timeline
- December 1, 2004: Scholars Studio Interest Form is available in SchooLinks.
- December 5, 2024: Monticello Curriculum Showcase is held from 4:30-6:00 PM. Click here for flyer.
- December 9 & 10, 2024: 8th grade field trip to CATEC and Center I.
- December 12, 2024: Parent/StudentPortal opens for course requests to be entered.
- December 12 -19, 2024: Counselors meet with students in Civics classrooms to enter initial course requests into PowerSchool.
- December 17, 2024: Rising 9th grade student and family information session will be held at 6:00 PM at Burley.
- December 20, 2024: Initial course requests must be entered into PowerSchool. Portal is closed.
- December 20, 2024 - January 5, 2025: Student/Parent Portal is open for families to view course selections.
- January 6 - March 7, 2024: Families and students will meet with their middle school counselor to finalize course requests.
- Meeting registration link coming in early January.
- January 24: Monticello High School AVID applications are due. Click here for the application.
- February 28, 2025: Community Lab General Information Form is due before 5:00 PM. Click here for more information.
- This form MUST be submitted to be entered into the lottery.
- February 28, 2025: Scholars Studio interest forms are due. These are completed in SchooLinks.
- March 14, 2025: Registration window closes.
- March 28, 2025: Last day for students to change course requests.

ACPS Specialized Programs
- CATEC- Charlottesville-Albemarle Technical Educational Center. Apply in 9th grade to attend in 10th grade.
- Community Lab School- Small, liberal arts charter school grounded in student-centered learning. Has an International Baccalaureate Program (IB Program).
- Scholars Studios- Formerly known as Career Learning Communities (CLCs), Albemarle County Public Schools’ Scholars Program offers 14 innovative Studios within the Scholars Program, designed for students in grades 9-12 to explore career pathways aligned with their interests.
- Early College Degree Program- opportunity to earn an Associates Degree while in high school through Dual Enrollment and Advanced Placement courses.
Recent High School Changes
- Weighted Grades: Courses with Dual Enrollment, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and Honors designations will be weighted using the scale below. Additionally, in support of our objective to encourage students to enroll in courses that most appeal to them and to pursue their passions and interests, we will add weight to level 3 and level 4 elective courses, such as Creative Writing 3 and Spanish 4.

- AP Courses Unlimited: Freshmen are unable to take Advanced Placement (AP) classes. ACPS 10th-12th grade students are no longer limited in the total number of AP courses they can take in high school.
- Scholars Studios: Students who are interested in the Scholars Studios may apply in either 8th or 9th grades.
- Courses that are no longer offered: Freshman seminar, JROTC, Culinary Arts (9th grade), Photography (9th grade), Advanced Biology (9th grade), and German.

It is already time to start talking about your eighth grade Burley Bear becoming an Albemarle High School Patriot! Below you will find important information regarding your child’s high school transition that will help you both prepare for ninth grade next fall at Albemarle High School.
AHS 9th Grade Course Registration Timeline
